Affectionately called “Scotland’s frontier fortress,” the castle is arguably the best-preserved of a group of prestigious mansions erected by wealthy Border lairds in the last part of the 16th century. The castle was originally built in 1476 by Sir Thomas Kerr. Tulloch Castle is located in the town of Dingwall in the Highlands of Scotland. It dates at least to the late 14th century as the birthplace of Mariota Leslie, daughter of Euphemia I, countess of Ross. Mariota was the wife of Donald Macdonald, Lord of the Isles. Several of Euphemia's children by Walter Leslie were born at Tulloch Castle.
