I put in a new spark plug, fuel filter and shut off valve in the gas line. Also...checked the cap for vent blockage.

But you do need the solenoid plunger to retract so fuel will flow to the engine for the diesel to start and run. You can either replace the solenoid or convert to a manual shutoff like on the 330.
